Craspedias- Also known as “billy buttons,” these tidy buds are available year-round. Excellent for having hits of color. They do have pollen so might not be suitable if anyone in the party has allergies.

Fiddlehead Ferns AKA Monkey Tails

Fiddlehead ferns also known as Monkey Tails and Uluhe Ferns are the young sprouts of the fern before it fully opens. Most of the time they are green (at least they are in the forest and at our grocery store).

Green Berries and Eucalyptus Leaves

Species of Eucalyptus are cultivated throughout the tropics and subtropics including the Americas, England, Africa, the Mediterranean Basin, the Middle East, China and the Indian Subcontinent.

Green Orchid

The Royal Botanical Gardens of Kew list 880 genera and nearly 22,000 accepted species, but the exact number is unknown (perhaps as many as 25,000) because of taxonomic disputes. The number of orchid species equals about four times the number of mammal species, or more than twice the number of bird species

Dahlia is a genus of bushy, tuberous, perennial plants native to Mexico, Central America, and Colombia. There are at least 36 species of dahlia. Dahlia hybrids are commonly grown as garden plants.

Yellow Gerbera Daisy

Gerbera is very popular and widely used as a decorative garden plant or as cut flowers. The domesticated cultivars are mostly a result of a cross between Gerbera jamesonii and another South African species Gerbera viridifolia. The cross is known as Gerbera hybrida. Thousands of cultivars exist. They vary greatly in shape and size. Colors include white, yellow, orange, red, and pink. The center of the flower is sometimes black. Often the same flower can have petals of several different colors.

Gerbera is also important commercially. It is the fifth most used cut flower in the world (after rose, carnation, chrysanthemum, and tulip). It is also used as a model organism in studying flower formation. Gerbera contains naturally occurring coumarin derivatives. Gerbera is a tender annual flower

You don’t have to be having a winter wedding in order to qualify for a White Ice themed Wedding. In fact, white ice wedding themes are becoming more and more popular for brides all over the world, regardless of their wedding date.

So, what is a white ice wedding theme?

An white ice wedding theme naturally focuses around the colour white. This colour – along with ice blue and shots of silver – should form the basis of your wedding theme. Your dress will be white with a few pearl, iridescent or silver beads sewn onto its bodice. Anything with white feathers, white fluff and white fur are key to creating this look successfully too so a shoulder wrap or bolero will complete the bridal look perfectly.

Centrepieces would look great if created with ice. There are many ice sculptors out there who can make anything you require. Swans are always a good choice or entwined hearts. Another option is to use flowers as a centrepiece. Your florist will discuss ideas with you but generally speaking white roses, white lilies or any other white blooms will look perfect especially when intermingled with silver sprays and pure white feathers.

If your budget won’t permit a stay in the Ice Hotel in Norway, then you need to bring the icy feel to your reception venue. The best way to achieve this is to cover tables with crisp white linen and cover chairs with either white, silver or pale blue chair covers. If your reception venue allows it, you could spray snow onto windows and dangle snowflakes from window frames. Cotton wool on windowsills will also give the venue an authentic feel. Scatter tables with snowflake confetti in white, silver and ice blue.

There is a great deal of choice when it comes to wedding favours. Snowflake bath confetti would be great for the ladies or ice blue organza bags filled with silver confectionery. Any chocolate favours always go down well with male, female and child guests and these could be encased in blue, white or silver favour boxes. Complete the feel of your favour boxes with white feathers or silver snowflake trims.

If finances permit, you could hire in a snow machine to create a really snowy feel outside the venue. This will give you some great photo opportunities from your white ice wedding theme.

When it comes to creating a white ice wedding theme, there are many ways that this can be achieved as outlined above. The main thing is that the stationery, table decorations, flowers and outfits all reflect this icy wintry theme and you can’t go wrong.

Traditionally a plain, gold band, is the oldest surviving symbol of marriage. The circle represents eternity and never-ending love, while the gold represents purity of intent. It is placed on the fourth finger of the left-hand as it was believed that a vein called the Vena Amoris ran straight from it to the heart.

The throwing of the Garter and Bouquet:

Garter by the groom to unmarried men and the Bouquet by the bride to unmarried girls is believed to bring good luck and marriage to whomever they are caught by.

The conventional White Dress:

This  is said to be a sign of purity and high virtues.  Green signifies youth, hope and happiness. Red denotes vigour, courage and passion, while violet symbolises dignity, pride and high ideals.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue:

Something Old could be a piece of jewelery or something from a happily married woman as a blessing of matrimonial bliss. This represents the married woman’s links with her family and her past.

Something New depicts the new life that the bride is starting – usually this is her dress or shoes.

Something Borrowed is to remind the bride of the need to rely on others for help. This is normally gold, representing the sun, the source of life.

Something Blue, usually the garter, denotes faithfulness and is a compliment to the moon, protector of women.

Honeymoon:

About 4000 years ago in Babylon it was the accepted practise that after a wedding the bride’s father would supply his new son-in-law with all the beer he could drink for a month. The beer, called mead, was a honey-based beer, and because the Babylonian calendar was lunar-based the period became known as the honey month, or as we know it today, the honeymoon.

Ringing of the wedding bells after the ceremony:

This was meant to scare away the evil spirits that could destroy the couple’s happiness.

The Bridal Bouquets:

In ancient times, the first bridal bouquets were made of not only flowers but special herbs and spices. This was done to ward off the evil spirits. They also used particular herbs that symbolized fertility.

Throwing rice (or birdseed) as the couple departs:

The birdseed was thrown to promote fertility.

The Receiving Line:

In ancient times, it was believed that the bride and groom were blessed. Those who touched them would have good luck.

Bride and groom cut the cake and then feed each other.

Feeding each other the cake symbolizes how the couple will “feed” and nourish the relationship for the rest of their lives. Now, this was meant as loving and caring symbol for each other.

Giving almonds

This symbolises the bitter and sweet aspect of married life. The five almonds represent Love, Happiness, Loyalty, Prosperity and Virility.
